About the club
Hotel La Cala Resort brings together golf, accommodation and leisure facilities in Mijas, in Málaga province, Andalusia. For a golf trip to the Costa del Sol, its defining feature is the choice within the resort: three 18-hole courses, America, Asia and Europa, plus a short Par 3 course. Accommodation, dining and activities beyond golf are also part of the complex.
Choosing your golf
Campo America is an 18-hole, par-72 course designed by Cabell Robinson. Alongside Asia and Europa, it forms the resort’s trio of full-length courses, giving golfers several courses to consider when planning a stay around more than one round.
La Cala Short Course offers a different format, with nine Par 3 holes. It complements the 18-hole courses with a shorter option, allowing golf to occupy a smaller part of the day rather than always being built around a full round.
The resort also has a golf academy, driving range, golf simulator and golf shop. Together, these facilities give practice its own place in the itinerary, alongside time spent out on the courses.
Staying at the resort
Accommodation includes Hotel La Cala and holiday accommodation. Spa La Cala adds a separate focus for relaxation, while the Racquet Club, gym and fitness activities provide options away from golf.
This range is worth considering when travelling with companions whose plans are not entirely based on playing. Golf, practice, spa time and other sporting activities can all form part of a stay at the same resort. The complex also provides facilities and services for events and celebrations.
Restaurants and bars
The dining and bar line-up comprises The Clubhouse, El Patio, Hole 64, La Terraza, The Panoramic Bar, The Pool Bar, The Steakhouse and Vista Café. These establishments form part of the wider resort offering, alongside its courses and accommodation, rather than golf being the only reason to spend time at the complex.
Course care and competition
Since 1991, the resort has used recycled water for the maintenance and irrigation of its three courses. This is a useful detail for visitors interested in how the golf facilities are maintained.
The resort’s signature tournament is the La Cala Golf World Open, in its 20th edition. It adds a competition focus to a place whose golf offering extends from the nine-hole short course to its three 18-hole layouts.
