About the area
A golf trip to the Costa de la Luz starts with a choice between the provinces of Cádiz and Huelva, both in Andalucía. The options published in this guide are in Cartaya, Rota and Chiclana de la Frontera. Choosing your base alongside the golf you want to play gives the trip a starting point: the selection includes nine-hole golf, eighteen-hole courses and clubs with more than one layout.
Match the course to your plans
For a nine-hole par-3 round, Costa Ballena Golf Club in Rota has a layout designed by Jose María Olazábal and IGD. Its academy and driving range also make it an option if practice is part of your holiday rather than an addition to a round.
El Rompido, in Cartaya, offers a different choice: Campo Norte and Campo Sur are both eighteen-hole, par-72 courses. You can therefore plan different rounds while keeping the same club as your destination. In Chiclana de la Frontera, Real Novo Sancti Petri has layouts by Severiano Ballesteros, together with an academy and driving range.
Decide whether you want practice sessions, nine holes or full eighteen-hole rounds before building the itinerary. When booking, check which layout your chosen tee time is for, particularly at clubs offering several courses.
Choose a base around the facilities
Accommodation can be part of that decision. El Rompido and Real Novo Sancti Petri both list a hotel and restaurant among their facilities, allowing you to consider your stay and your golf together.
Cartaya’s published options also include Hotel Nuevo Portil Golf, with a hotel, restaurant and spa. For practice facilities, Costa Ballena and Real Novo Sancti Petri have both an academy and driving range, while El Rompido has a driving range. Weigh these differences alongside the municipality and course when choosing where to base your trip.
