About the club

For a golf stay in southern Gran Canaria, Salobre brings together two courses, a hotel and facilities for time away from the fairways. The resort is in San Bartolomé de Tirajana, in the province of Las Palmas in the Canary Islands. Its 36 holes are spread across the Old Course and New Course, both integrated into the volcanic terrain of this part of the island.

The two layouts give visitors a choice within the same resort. Each has 18 holes, but they differ in designer, opening year and par. The Old Course also has a desert setting, a defining part of its landscape. Knowing these distinctions is a useful starting point when deciding how to divide your golf between the two courses.

The two courses

Old Course

Roland Favré designed the Old Course, which opened in 1999. It is an 18-hole, par-71 layout set in a desert landscape. Together, that setting and the surrounding volcanic relief give a clear sense of the environment in which Salobre’s golf has been developed. It is the earlier of the resort’s two courses.

New Course

The New Course followed in 2008, with a design by Ron Kirby. Its 18 holes play to a par of 70, adding a second layout to the resort’s golf offering. Like the Old Course, it is integrated into the volcanic terrain of southern Gran Canaria. Playing both offers the opportunity to experience work by two different designers without moving to another golf complex.

Staying at Salobre

Accommodation is provided by Salobre Hotel Resort & Serenity, which has its own entry in this guide. The resort’s services also include a spa and restaurant, allowing visitors to combine their golf with meals and time away from the courses within the same complex.

There is also a golf academy, covered on a separate page, and the resort offers event services. For anyone organising a stay around golf, these facilities form the wider picture alongside the two layouts: Salobre is both a place to play and a place to stay.

Golf hotel recognition

The resort received the award for Spain’s Best Golf Hotel at the World Golf Awards 2024. That recognition relates to the hotel-and-golf side of a destination whose offering brings together accommodation, two courses, dining, a spa and golf tuition.
