About the club
Set in a mountain-ringed valley in Borriol, in the province of Castellón, Mediterráneo Golf lies six kilometres from the Mediterranean Sea. For visiting golfers, its connection with Sergio García is a particular point of interest: this is where he first played, and the club is home to the academy bearing his name.
The 18-hole course was designed by Ramón Espinosa and opened in 1978. Orange trees, olives and carobs form part of its Mediterranean setting, while the facilities provide scope for practice, tuition and other sports alongside a round of golf.
Playing the course
Espinosa’s layout combines the valley landscape with scattered trees and water hazards, including canals and lakes. These features create varied technical challenges throughout the round. The club describes the course as suitable for different playing standards and highlights its maintenance.
According to the club, the greens are prepared to run at professional tour speeds, making the putting surfaces a notable part of the playing experience. Its tournament history includes the 2011 Castelló Masters Costa Azahar, won by García on the course where he began playing.
Practice and tuition
There is plenty of room to work on your game before or apart from a round. The driving range extends for almost 300 metres and has an artificial practice surface alongside two spacious natural-grass tees. A separate 3,000 m² short-game area offers several bunkers and different surfaces.
The practice facilities include Trackman, Sam Putt and Putt View. Together with the Sergio García academy, they make instruction a substantial part of the club’s offering rather than simply an addition to the course.
The sports school has more than 100 students and provides golf, tennis and padel lessons. The club emphasises a welcoming, family atmosphere, with facilities for younger players and families as well as golfers working on their own game.
Clubhouse and other sports
The clubhouse has a restaurant, bar and terrace, plus a gym, saunas and a specialist shop. Tennis and padel courts offer alternatives to golf. The restaurant also plays a role in club competitions, hosting lunches and trophy presentations after play.
Charity events form part of club life, including tournaments for the provincial Down syndrome association with players and supporting businesses taking part. The club also describes itself as a cardioprotected venue.
Energy in the valley
A photovoltaic installation supplies 40% of the club’s electricity demand. The project is estimated to avoid 524 tonnes of CO₂ emissions over 30 years. It is a practical investment supporting the sporting facilities in this valley setting, close to the Mediterranean coast.
