Barbanza Golf

Barbanza Golf brings together Pitch & Putt, an academy and a varied competition programme in a quiet, mountainous setting in Galicia. The club is in the municipality of Boiro, in the province of A Coruña, ten minutes from Boiro and nine from Noia. Both towns provide nearby reference points when planning a visit to this part of Galicia.

The club has two courses, with an 18-hole, par-54 Pitch & Putt course among its facilities. Competition records refer to both long and short Pitch & Putt layouts. Alongside the courses, the academy is part of the club’s wider range of services.

Pitch & Putt with a competitive focus

Barbanza has hosted the Spanish Under-16 and Benjamín Pitch & Putt Championship, while its long layout also stages events on the Galician Pitch & Putt Ranking. These fixtures sit alongside the club’s own competitions, which include individual events, team matches and junior leagues.

The Race to Barbanza brings its finalists together after 20 weeks of participation for a day combining competition and social time. There is also an Order of Merit with scratch and handicap categories; its leading players can qualify for a Ryder-style event at Barbanza Golf.

A further individual competition combines 16 rounds with four Match Play events. Younger golfers have a junior league offering 9- and 18-hole categories, using short and alternate layouts. Junior golf is therefore part of the club’s own programme as well as its championship-hosting history.

Team events at Barbanza

The annual Copa Lar Blanco is a team match play competition. It reached its eighth edition in 2022, with that edition scheduled for 19 June at Barbanza Golf. Entry included a meal at the course, bringing a shared meal into the sporting occasion.

The club also organised the 2023 Business League. This consisted of nine events and featured formats including Fourball, Greensome Chapman and Scramble. Together with the Copa Lar Blanco, it illustrates the range of team formats that have formed part of Barbanza’s competition programme.

The academy and the setting

For a visit centred on golf rather than tournament results, the academy is another part of the club to note. Barbanza’s setting is mountainous and quiet, yet Boiro and Noia are only minutes away. The combination of Pitch & Putt, academy services and organised competition gives the club several distinct aspects to explore when considering a golf stop in Galicia.
